Chris:Today we are going to solve an easy 123 problem.
Al:Rebecca wrote to us with this problem. It says; The sum of two consecutive even numbers is one half of 500. Which is the largest number of the two?
Al:Well, this seems like a real problem, doesn't it?
Chris:Not really!! To solve this problem you just have to follow the steps.
Chris:The problem states one half of 500. That's 250.
Al:So that out of the way, you are trying to find the two consecutive even numbers that equal 250.
Al:A really easy trick to finding the answer is to divide 250 by 2 and than adding 1 to one part and subtracting 1 to the other part. So let's do it!
Chris:250 divided by two is two 125s. So now just add one to one 125 and subtract 1 from the other, giving you 124 and 126.
Al:Now check the answer. Let's see, 126 plus 124 is, oh my gosh, 250!
Chris:And for the final part, the largest number of the two is 126. Ta Da, that's your answer!
